(Hong Kong, 11 January 2013) Sun Fook Kong held the opening ceremony of “Sun Fook Kong Safety Awards Scheme 2013” at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre on 11 January. Over 380 staffs from Sun Fook Kong Project Management and Safety Department and contractors attended the event.
Mr. Patrick Lee, Managing Director of Construction and Safety Director of the Group said during his opening speech, “Sun Fook Kong strives to achieve “Zero Accident”. We will keep promoting a safety culture and strengthen our safety monitoring system, to ensure all our workers are working safely. “
To bring greater convenience to the workers and to enhance its brand image, Sun Fook Kong has re-designed their work uniform. Mr. Eric Chau, Senior Safety Manager of the Group said, “Last year, we standardized the safety helmet and reflective vest; this year, we start launching our new work uniform. The polo shirt for management is in white colour while the polo shirt for worker is in yellow colour. For the trousers, thicker cloth is adopted around the knee to avoid workers getting hurt easily.”
Following the opening ceremony of “Sun Fook Kong Safety Awards Scheme 2013”, a total of 40 awards were presented to the Year 2012 winners. The big winners of the night were the project of “SFK-Biwater Joint Venture: Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A - Upgrading Works at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works - Main Pumping Station, Sedimentation Tanks and Ancillary Facilities” winning the championship of “The Best Performance Project Safety Award” and the first runner-up of “Good Housekeeping Award”; and the project of “Provision of Lift Shafts at LCK, SWH & PRE” receiving the first runner-up of “The Best Performance Project Safety Award” together with the championship of “Good Housekeeping Award”.
Besides, the result of the “Safety Slogan Design Competition 2012” was announced during the event. A total of 94 entries were received for this competition while only 13 works could be becomes the finalist. All these 13 winning slogans will be used in different safety promotional materials (e.g. posters, banners) for the coming years.
Other than “The Best Performance Project Safety Award” and “Good Housekeeping Award”, “Zero Accident Award Scheme” is newly introduced this year to give recognition to the projects achieved “zero accident” rate and the contractors achieved “zero reportable accident” record. In future, Sun Fook Kong will continue to enhance the site safety, improve the welfare of the workers and promote a safety culture with a view to achieving zero accident in its construction sites.
